    He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) 

    Fumio Kishida is a Japanese politician who was born on February 8, 1956, in Hiroshima, Japan. 

    He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and has held several important positions in the government of Japan.

    In recent years, Kishida has become an important figure in Japanese politics and is considered a potential Prime Minister of Japan. Despite his relatively low profile, he is well respected by his peers and is seen as a thoughtful and capable politician.

    On 3 September 2021, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga stepped down just one year after he took power from Shinzo Abe in September 2020.According to a nationwide poll on Suga's Cabinet, his popularity tell from 66.4% in   September 2020 to 26% in August 2021, an all-time low since the start of his tenure. His resignation prompted a race for the position of the party's leadership  and, consequently, Prime Minister. The ultimate winner was Mr Fumio Kishida, a dovish moderate , popular in the centre-right LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) but not nearly as much amongst the Japanese public. This article provides an assessment of the most recent events in Japanese politics, from Suga’s resignation to the election of PM Kishida and his political stances, with a final remark about possible political consequences for the EU.

    On 29 September 2021 it was confirmed that Fumio Kishida, former foreign minister of Japan had won the LDP’s leadership battle. 5 days later, Kishida became Japan’s 100th prime minister, succeeding Yoshihide Suga after his 12-month term. Despite being a junior politician from LDP’s younger generation, Kishida is no beginner to Japanese politics. Since 2007, he has been appointed to various roles in the cabinet of Shinzo Abe and Yasuko Fukada, and from 2012 to 2017 he served as minister of foreign affairs.

    Education Background 


    Kishida graduated from Kaisei Academy, where he also played on the baseball team. Following several rejections from the University of Tokyo, Kishida studied law at Waseda University and graduated in 1982. At Waseda, he was friends with future politician Takeshi Iwaya.

    Kishida graduated from the Faculty of Law at Kyoto University and went on to work as a bureaucrat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1993 and has been reelected several times. He has served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2017 and was also Chair of the LDP Policy Research Council and Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission.
    Kishida is known for his expertise on foreign policy issues and is considered a moderate within the LDP. He has been involved in several important initiatives, including Japan's efforts to establish closer relations with China and South Korea. He is also a proponent of constitutional reform and has been an advocate for the revision of Japan's pacifist constitution.


    Lifestyle and Family 


    Personal life. In 1988, Kishida married Yuko Kishida, a daughter of a real estate businessman, in an arranged marriage. They have three sons. In one presentation, Yuko was featured in the LDP messaging immediately after he became the de facto PM-designate.
    Suga has a daily fitness routine that includes doing 100 situps and 40 minutes of walking each morning, and 100 situps each night. He started this routine after a doctor advised him to lose weight, and he lost 14 kg (31 lb) in four months.He is also known as a voracious reader, and is known for reading all major newspapers daily despite his busy schedule.

    Suga practices karate  when he was a college student. He holds the thire dan black belt.

    Suga is known to have a sweet tooth. His favorite food is pancakes. His lunch is almost alway soba. He neither smokes nor drinks.
